Mollwitz Refought

Much of my Volley & Bayonet gaming revolves around fictional engagements where the battle is fictional but the armies used are heavily based on historical situations. These are ideal where time is short or gaming frequent. However, refighting historical battles has much appeal. Over recent weeks I have managed a couple of refights of the Battle of Mollwitz.

Mollwitz is a small battle with both the Austrians and Prussians deploying around 20,000 troops. Further, the battlefield in Volley & Bayonet terms is restricted measuring around 4’ x 4’. As we tend to use half scale, where the ground scale is halved, we only need a table that is 2’ x 2’. With Covid creating some disruptions here currently the size and scale of Mollwitz seemed ideal to refight virtually with one player joining by Skype.

In our first refight both players engaged along reasonably traditional lines. A report can be found on my On Campaign with Volley & Bayonet blog, or directly here.

In the second refight the Austrian commander experimented with a different approach. A report for this second engagement is provided via YouTube here.

The Mollwitz scenario can be found on this website here. It was used with only minor modification.
