For the last two years a group of us have been refighting a number of American Civil War Battles at, or near, the 160th anniversary of specific battles. On occasion we have refought the battle more than once. It has been, for me a most enjoyable experience. During September 2023 six wargamers gathered for what was ninth historical battle in the series. Specifically the Battle of Chickamauga.
The scenario we used for our game was that in the Volley & Bayonet scenario “Battles of the American Civil War”. One item that perplexed me was how to rate the woods that feature so heavily in this battle. After much consideration the woods were considered “open” for all purposes, except movement was halved for all stands.
Our refight took place on the 15th and 16th of September 2023, a few days prior to historical anniversary, but as near as I could get. Unfortunately, a busy work schedule since has meant that compiling a report has taken longer than I had hoped.
